The Household Hazardous Waste program is sponsoring a free one-day event in San Leandro on Sunday, May 5, 2024 for residents of Alameda County only. 

Registration is Closed

We're sorry to let you know that the event is already full, and we're no longer accepting registrations. However, there are other options available for you to dispose of your hazardous household waste. The LivermoreOakland, and Hayward HHW Facilities are open on a weekly basis, providing a convenient and safe way to handle your hazardous materials. Event Instructions:

  • Stay in your vehicle. It is state law. Please place items in an unlocked trunk or back cargo space.
  • Have your driver's license ready. We will scan your license to verify Alameda County residency. If your driver’s license doesn't have an Alameda County address, please show proof of residency by bringing a recent utility bill or a copy of a rental or ownership agreement.
  • Businesses cannot participate in these events; find information about business hazardous waste disposal.

  • Treated wood waste including railroad ties, click for more information
  • Asbestos
  • Compressed gas cylinders other than propane
  • Large appliances (such as air conditioners, refrigerators, stoves, washers, etc.)
  • Construction and demolition waste
  • Smoke detectors
  • Explosives (such as ammunition, fireworks, marine flares, gunpowder)
  • Radioactives
