Teacher Training and Workshop Opportunities
Doing the 4Rs Workshop
During this FREE workshop, educators will experience hands-on classroom activities from Doing the 4Rs, a Classroom Activity Guide to Teach Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rot and take a walking tour of the Davis Street Station for Material Recycling and Transfer in San Leandro. Participants receive a copy of the activity guide, videos and other hands-on teaching materials. Doing the 4Rs Classroom Activity Guide has been peer reviewed through the North American Environmental Education Resource Review process using NAAEE’s Guidelines for Excellence. The workshop is open to teachers and informal educators employed to teach in Alameda County.
Please note that the activity guide is written and correlated to 4th and 5th grade Califorinia State Standards. Teachers from all grade levels are welcome to attend.

Master Composter Training Program
Take part in this training and environmental education program to become a skilled composter and compost educator. Learn about compost science, soil health and natural gardening techniques and receive free composting and gardening resources. Teachers who complete the program are eligible for a $200 stipend to use towards school gardens and classroom compost activities and can earn continuing education and graduate level credits from Cal State East Bay.

Teacher In-Service Professional Development and Mini-Grant Program
Greening your Curriculum and Schoolyard with the 4Rs
Participate in this FREE teacher training and learn how to connect the 4Rs to your school garden and classroom curriculum. Participants are eligible for a mini-grant to jumpstart a waste reduction program at their school.
The Watershed Project is offering customized professional development in-service trainings at school sites throughout Alameda County to help teachers link the 4Rs in the garden to activities in the classroom. Trainings also offer customized technical support on soil science, composting, reclaimed garden design, sheet mulching and more.
Two to three hour long trainings are available throughout the week for teachers in Alameda County public schools. Participants will receive an activity reader and are eligible for a FREE 4-part student program as well as mini-grants to jump start a 4Rs program.
