Get Service

Under state and local law, all sites must have compost and recycling service.

All businesses, nonprofits, institutions, schools, and multifamily properties in California must have adequate compost (organics) and recycling collection service or a current waiver on file. To subscribe to the required services, contact your compost and recycling service provider(s).

TIP: Most cities offer discounted rates for compost and recycling collection. Getting the required service may allow you to reduce garbage service and lower your bill!

Call your service provider to add service:

Do you qualify for a waiver?

You may qualify for a waiver if you generate only minimal amounts of compostable or recyclable materials, or lack the necessary physical space for containers. Learn more and apply here.

Do you have alternative arrangements?

If your site has compost and/or recycling service but it's not your own subscription with the your city's provider, you'll need to submit a Certification of Recycling Service (CRS) form here.

Alternative arrangements for service include:

  • Back-hauling or self-hauling materials to a facility for composting/recycling
  • Shared service with a neighboring business
  • Using a third-party composter or recycler
