CALGreen Interim Code Cycle Updates - August 2024
On July 1, 2024, a series of new CALGreen (California’s green building code) requirements for embodied carbon of building materials went into effect. StopWaste has put together several resources for building department staff who will be responsible for enforcing these new codes:
- A presentation explaining the requirements and enforcement process:
- PDF (~30 slides)
- Video recording (~20 minutes)
- A two-page summary of the new requirements.
For a deeper dive now into parts of the new requirements, AIA California has recorded webinars as part of their CALGreen Embodied Carbon Series for design professionals:
- Understanding the 2023 Embodied Carbon Amendments
- Whole Building Lifecycle Assessment for Code Compliance
- Implications of Material Procurement for Design Professionals
Additional resources:
- Updated 2022 CALGreen Guide and related worksheets on the Building Standards Commission website
- CALGreen resources repository
- AIA’s A Quick Guide to Meeting the New CALGreen Embodied Carbon Requirements
We will update this page as more resources become available. StopWaste staff are also available to provide support, answer questions, and help with enforcement.
