Policy & Regulatory Support
Get help navigating the changing world of policies and regulations that address critical sustainability issues, including:
- Assistance with climate change and resiliency planning
- Support for policies, reach codes and leadership standards that reduce waste, save energy and water, and mitigate climate change
- Engagement with state and federal agencies to influence and track regulations affecting our region's environmental sustainability
- Peer learning opportunities via our Technical Advisory Group (TAG)
Project Implementation Assistance
Obtain assistance with planning and implementing building, landscape and infrastructure projects that reduce waste, energy and pollution, including:
- Resources for reducing and recycling construction and demolition (C&D) debris
- Technical assistance for green capital improvement projects including zero net energy (ZNE) buildings and carbon neutral municipal operations
- Free technical assistance for sustainable landscape design, construction and maintenance and use of locally produced compost and mulch

Healthy soils have come to the forefront in the last few years as a means to address climate mitigation and adaptation. This StopWaste report proposes nearly 50 measures addressing how soils, compost, and mulch can be incorporated into climate adaptation plans.
Authored by StopWaste and Arup, this primer provides an overview of a circular economy framework for the built environment at the community, neighborhood and building scales. The ideas and concepts included here are intended to stimulate local government decision-makers and staff in Alameda County and beyond to consider policies and actions in their jurisdictions. It illustrates concepts with real-world examples of sites and policies.
