Bay Area Deconstruction Working Group - November 21, 2024
Shifting Practices for Material Reuse
At our October meeting on funding strategies, presenters explored funding strategies to catalyze deconstruction and reuse markets but recognized entrenched barriers in procurement and integration processes optimized for a linear system that limit large-scale demand for reclaimed materials.
This meeting will focus on the changes to methodologies and understandings necessary to break these barriers to reuse among owner-architect-contractor practitioners and create the demand that will sustain the sector long-term. Featured speakers will share best practices for procuring and re-incorporating reclaimed materials based on case studies for projects that done so successfully and consider how these practices can be efficiently scaled.
Guiding inquiries: What methodologies are necessary for practitioners to procure and re-integrate reclaimed materials? What changes in approaches or understandings are necessary for these strategies to be adopted?
