In November 1999, the Alameda County Waste Management Authority Board endorsed a Model Construction & Demolition Ordinance requiring contractors to divert at least 50% of their construction waste materials from landfill.

Template for creating a debris recovery plan prior to demolition or construction
News | 01/25/2012In January 2012, the Alameda County Waste Management Authority adopted two ordinances that will help the county achieve its long-term waste reduction goals. The mandatory recycling ordinance requires larger businesses and multifamily properties to collect recyclables. The reusable bag ordinance prohibits free distribution of single-use bags at check out in stores that sell packaged food. The laws are designed to reduce waste and litter, stimulate the local economy and create jobs.

Bay-Friendly Basics are nine fundamental steps for creating a healthy garden or landscape that saves water and reduces waste. Many jurisdictions in Alameda County require certain landscape construction projects to meet the Bay-Friendly Basics requirements.
