News | 04/01/2019The East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) recognized StopWaste as one of four inaugural WaterSmart Partners at a ceremony on March 12, 2019. StopWaste previously received WaterSmart designation in 2011 for on-site water-saving practices.

While the recycling landscape has changed nationally due to China’s decision last year to stop importing some mixed plastics and mixed paper, it is far from dead, especially in Alameda County and the Bay Area.

The Alameda County Waste Reduction and Recycling Initiative (Measure D), levies a surcharge on solid waste landfilled in unincorporated Alameda County. Fifty percent of Recycling Fund revenues are disbursed to cities and sanitary districts that meet criteria contained in the law.
